Children process grief differently than adults. They may seem fine one moment and overwhelmed the next.
Signs a Child May Be Struggling
- Asking repeated questions
- Clinginess or fear of being alone
- Changes in sleep or eating
- Acting out or withdrawing
- Regression (bed-wetting, baby talk)
How to Help
- Use simple, age-appropriate language
- Be honest, but compassionate
- Encourage questions
- Allow them to express feelings
- Provide comfort items (blankets, drawings, memory boxes)
- Maintain routines when possible
